Security Operations is course 3 to IAVM's Introduction to Venue Safety & Security Microcredential.

This course introduces the foundations of Security Operations, providing students with a clear understanding of their purpose, scope, and critical role in maintaining a safe and secure environment. You will explore the core components that make up Security Operations, distinguish Security Operations from Security Plans, and examine how venue operations differ from and support event operations. Students will also gain insight into the importance of communication, coordination, and documentation as essential elements that ensure consistency, accountability, and preparedness across all security functions.

By the end of this course, participants should be able to:

• Define Security Operations and explain their overarching purpose.
• Identify the key components of Security Operations and how they function in both event and non-event settings.
• Differentiate Security Operations from Security Plans, recognizing the unique role each plays in overall safety strategy.
• Distinguish between venue-level and event-level operations, understanding where they overlap and how they must interface.
• Recognize the critical importance of communication, coordination, and documentation in successful security management.
• Have options for gaining additional resources and education (VMS. AVSS,  IAVM Textbook, FEMA, DHS, NCS4, etc.) if they would like a deeper knowledge of Security Operations and Planning.
